Neuropsychology is a branch of clinical psychology that aims to identify and understand changes in thinking and behaviour, often as a result of a brain injury.
Within the Wellington Hospital, the main role of the neuropsychologist is to identify and measure the extent of any changes in thinking ability, such as attention, memory, reasoning and perception. Finding solutions to acquired problem behaviours is part of the role of the neuropsychologist, as is addressing the emotional changes that frequently follow the diagnosis and treatment of an intracranial condition.
The neuropsychology department has a busy outpatient facility in order to continue to care for the needs of patients once they have been treated and discharged.
